Hi, I’m Anastasia 💛

Jewish Heritage Tour Florence — Renaissance? Yes, but from a Jewish perspective
My Jewish heritage tour in Florence takes you behind the modest façades of the narrow streets, to the Great Synagogue of Florence (Tempio Maggiore) — one of Europe’s most beautiful Synagogues. Built in 1882 in Moorish-Sephardic style, with a green dome that rivals the Duomo, and inside richly decorated — a magnificent Aron Kodesh, Moorish ornaments and ancient Hebrew inscriptions.
The Florence Jewish community is a centuries-old, important Jewish community — Jewish presence in Florence is documented since the 14th century, through the Jews welcomed by the Medici family, the Ghetto established by Duke Cosimo I at the end of the 16th century, and up to today’s modern community.
On this tour we won’t just see the Synagogue — we’ll also explore where Judaism hides at the heart of the Renaissance: biblical figures, hidden symbols and stories of Jews who shaped the Florence we know today.

Moses and David in Florence — just 2 examples from many
Two biblical figures who became Renaissance symbols — and two stories that will surprise you
Moses with the horns
“כִּי קָרַן עוֹר פָּנָיו”
“For the skin of his face had become radiant”
Exodus 34:29
⬇
Moses with horns? 🐂 One of the most surprising stories in Christian art — born from a Latin mistranslation of the verse “For the skin of his face had become radiant” (the Hebrew word “karan” meaning both “radiant” and “horn”). This shaped generations of European artists.
David, King of Israel
“וַיָּמְלֹךְ דָּוִד עַל כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל”
“And David reigned over all Israel”
2 Samuel 5:5
⬇
Florence’s most famous symbol? It’s David, King of Israel 👑 The Israeli King David became, in Florence, a symbol of strength, freedom and civic independence 🇮🇱
More tours in Florence and Tuscany
In addition to the Jewish tour, you can also combine:
“I’m Israeli-Italian, and when I arrived in Florence over 20 years ago I became part of the Florence Jewish community, and so did my family. My family is still part of the community today. I learned in depth how the Jewish story is woven into the city’s story in unexpected ways, and I saw Florence also through Jewish eyes.”
“On these tours I want to share what I myself discovered and learned — not just the beautiful Synagogue, but all the small moments where Florence whispers something Jewish to you, with deep Israeli roots.“
4 things you won’t get on a “standard” Jewish tour in Florence:
💛
Part of the Florence Jewish community
I’m part of the Florence Jewish community, and my family is active in all the work needed to preserve Jewish identity — which here, in Italy, isn’t as natural and obvious as it is in Israel. Same Shabbat candles, same humor, same heart.
🇮🇹
Florence through a Jewish lens
You’ll see the city in a different light — Jewish scholars who shaped Florence, stories of the Ghetto, Christian thinkers who learned Hebrew out of love for Judaism, connections between the Medici, the Renaissance and Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah), and biblical figures hidden throughout the city.
✡️
No prior knowledge needed
Everything in English, with explanations adapted to you — no prior knowledge of Biblical Hebrew or Jewish history required. Every tour is personalized to each guest, pace and depth of information that interests you.

The price includes personal guidance in English, advance planning and coordination of entries. I’ll help arrange tickets in advance to minimize waiting time. No surprises, no hidden fees.
Absolutely. The tour is built for anyone interested in the Jewish layer of Florence and the deep connection between Judaism, Kabbalah and the city — secular, religious, Jewish or non-Jewish. Every tour is personalized based on your background and the depth of information that interests you. No prior knowledge of Biblical Hebrew or Jewish history needed.
Yes, in the 4-5 hour tour and full-day tour we go inside the Synagogue. In the short tour (2-3 hours) we see it from outside only.
The Synagogue is open to visitors on certain days and hours — I arrange the visit and tickets in advance, so you don’t have to worry about it. Note that on Shabbat and Jewish holidays the Synagogue is closed to tourists — unless you want to attend services, which requires advance registration.
Absolutely. The tour adapts to all ages — I match the pace, content and storytelling for children. I weave in fascinating biblical stories, riddles and active touring so kids connect and enjoy.
Yes. As a member of the Florence Jewish community active with Chabad in Tuscany, I work regularly with Chabad groups, religious families and observant travelers — coordinating kosher meals, Shabbat-friendly itineraries, and Synagogue visits.
Both tours combine sites and history — but in different proportions. The classic Florence tour focuses on the city’s famous sites (Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, hidden corners). The Jewish tour focuses on the Jewish layer: Great Synagogue, Aron Kodesh, Florence Jewish community stories, the Ghetto, Kabbalah’s influence on the Renaissance, Jewish scholars, Christian thinkers who learned Hebrew, and biblical figures hidden throughout the city. The two can be combined personally.
Yes. On a full-day tour you can combine a visit to a kosher winery in Chianti such as Cantina Giuliani or Terra di Seta, based on availability and advance coordination. An extended Jewish experience — from the city to the countryside.
